Stretch.

After my first medium long bike ride since April I needed to stretch a lot. 20 miles, flat, little wind, average 18.4mph, 156bpm. My legs were dead that last mile or so. It killed me to try to keep above 18.5mph.

Notice the mess of my place. The counter is the edge of my "dining room" and the chair I was in for the Fourth of July shot is also included. 24mm lenses don't give you any more space! Just the appearance.

Nikon D70 ,Nikkor 24mm f/2.8D AF
1/4s f/5.6 at 24.0mm iso400 full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

Hey, Jeanne, he DOES have sexy legs, lol! Good for you, Mark, that you are riding AND stretching again! I like this shot.

Jude, Step away from my brother...just cause he has sexy legs and that goatee...doens't mean you can look at him like that! Your place DOES look bigger here, since I know how little it is!!

Very nice colors on this.. i like the composition (the mess makes it so perfect..lol).. and well, for a sec I thought you were doing a Mario Martino "sexy self" theme this week..LOL

Good to read you're on the mend now! Well done Mark!

The 24mm will have the 1.5 mulitplier which is a bummer for wide shots?? More like a 36mm on a 35mm?? It is the one true down side? I would love something that will give me in the region of a 20mm on the D70 sometime - maybe next year though have been looking at the Sigma's ... 12 and 10mm's? Only thing I hate about Sigma lenses is those useless end caps that are a pain to fit at best but refuse to go on the 18-70 Nikkor!!

sorry, I mean "read kilometres instead of miles" (lol)
Adalberto Tiburzi11-Jul-2004 09:28
Ok, if you convert miles in kilometres, that's my average speed... :- (

A makro lens is nice but here it will not help to see more space. I'm just about going to change my bike too. I am looking for an allround tourer with some saddlebags for my camera. I used to drive 100 miles every sunday in summer when I was in Luxemburg. A bicycle has allways been part of my life.

Well it was a pretty moth!

Haines Point. I like it for the smooth paved road and flatness. I could do with fewer cars stopping and driving slowly, but it's so much safer than the city streets. On a bike the bumps and cracks are really huge! And faster than those other trails you mentioned. Rock Creek is too narrow and congested. Mt. Vernon isn't bad, but hard to maintain high speeds with the sharp turns. That was my last long ride. Old Dominion--on the way out there I crashed last time (see May 1st) on the Custis Trail, which is great for hills.

Larry, flat route, much easier to maintain that average than in San Francisco. :-) 15mph is more like it for a real road ride of about 25 miles.

How very productive of you. Quite a ride. I hope it was somewhere pretty.
Guest 11-Jul-2004 04:15
wow Mark I am impressed! 18mph for 20 miles is a great constant speed. Glad you're back on the bike! I am going for a ride in the morning - GGB and back. It's not 20 miles, but after climbing up 9 blocks of hill it will feel like one!
Dennis Steinauer11-Jul-2004 04:03
I'm not sure my leg even goes that straight. Where did you ride -- Rock Creek? Mt Vernon? Old Dominion?
jypsee11-Jul-2004 03:49
Mess??? that's no mess....it's just well lived in; and that was a moth, not a butterfly in my post today...I'm too lazy to put this is in a personal pmail :^) and, yes, you should get a macro lens...

And it must feel great to be back out exercizing again and working toward getting toned up! I admire you for that.

Still raining here in NH.
