June 9, 2004-a

Our leaders don't much ride horses today, but Ronald Reagan did. I wonder if these could be his boots. (I haven't watched the TV news so I don't know.) [Yes, I've been informed that they were his riding boots.]

His name is Sgt York. A 13-year old retired horse. The backward boots show that the rider has passed away, hence the riderless horse. Another famous a riderless horse was the one at Kennedy's funeral procession. And yes Mark, these were Reagan's boots, at least according to the network TVs.

This one is excellent!! While I like the close-up that you chose for your PaD too, this one has a stronger impact for me. By showing more of the horse and the guide, it's a more emotional statement - we see where we expect the rider to be, but instead there are only his boots. I also like the context of the crowd.

Nice shot too; I think the crop in the PAD is best though.
