Two World War II veterans swapping stories. An alternate of these guys can be seen HERE. I'll post more photos from the Smithsonian Folk Life festival "Tribute to a Generation" Sunday or Monday.

(Note: I swapped photos after reading Rebecca's comment and looking at them some more.)

Awesome. Wow, is this ever sharp. LOVE IT!

Mark, this image so overwhelms me. It is so wonderful on so many different levels. Thank you for capturing it for us!

I thought there was something odd about the body language and expressions, too. I wish I had been close enough to hear, but I had to back up a lot. 112mm comes to a field of view equivalent to 168mm. (Wow. That's why things were so tight! I haven't adjusted my "seeing" to the new effective fields of view. So I always start out too close.)

Wow, these are both great, Mark. The way you captured them with the capital behind, that's perfect! Would be intersting to hear what they are talking about...

Be funny if they were talking about recipes...or knitting, wouldn't it?

...good grief, I got so carried away lecturing that I neglected to say that the photo is really good...I'd use it as a fine example of the day; beautiful composition, Mark.

..nice rundown of the body language by Linda; but, most men do this automatically..at least men of the generation prior to "the 60's." It's the primitive response to meeting which humans don't recognize since it's driven by a part of the ancient brain; notice that the men stand in oblique relationship to one another and that they wear a uniform and they may be from different service organizations. All this goes into the mix of body language they display. In addition, these men are in the US, where interaction is very different than in, say, the middle east....sorry, it's the anthropologist in me responding to Linda's comment :^)

It's a fab photo although some strange body language going on....man grinning madly but in a very closed pose with arms crossed faces man with cross expression on his face yet open body pose - hands on hips....I wonder what they were talking about? I can imagine the smiling one saying 'your unit was rubbish' and the pose says 'challenge me on that if you will'. While the other man is composing a retort while his body is saying 'look I don't want to fight about this'. Hee Hee

Mark I like this one .. feels more positive. Sharp and well done. I especially like the Capitol dome in the background.

Great shots. I can see why you had some indecision. I like the people shot of the other shot (First PaD picture) but I like the background better of this one. Regardless, well done.

Great shot, Mark. I'm afraid too many people have forgotten what Memorial Day is supposed to be about, maybe this event will help us all to remember...

I am pretty sure the guy on the left (viewer's right) is Jerry Van Dyke from the old show "Coach."

Nice photo!

I actually like this one better than the one in your PaD gallery. I like the interaction better, I think. Something about their stances, their faces is more interesting to me in this one.

I like this one very much as well.
