IN the 1970s the Mexican government decided
they wanted to build a new world class resort area
to compete with Acapulco. They choose a little sand
spit offshore from the little fishing village called
Puerto Juarez on the Yucutan Peninsula. Today,
more than 2 million visitors come to Cancun every year.
