The step pyramide in Saqqara. The brilliant architect Imhotep
designed the monument as a stone "mastaba" a low, rectangular building
covering a burial shaft. Not satisified with a simple retangle,
he modeified the original structure and stacked several layers on top
of the original base. This is the world's oldest funerary monument
(2630 BC).
