When I decided that I neeeded a "water proof" camera for my travels , I found the Panasonic DMC-TS1. Although it's just a P&S, my little, orange dynamo does a decent job both in & out of the water. It went with me to Antarctica & is still being used for Memory Shots here at home. Although the TS1 will never equal a high quality DSLR, it does a respectable job and is currently considered the leader in its class. However, it does compliment my DSLR system.
