Today was the wettest day in Kansas City in about two months. The official measurement - taken at the airport - registered slightly over an inch by evening. The last time we had more than that was back in July. However, the area could use a lot more rain, given the recent dry stretch and moderate drought.
According to the rain gauge on our back deck, we got exactly 2" of rain today at our house. And a half inch last week. Hurray!!! We've had to water daily to try to keep our new landscape plants going. Today's rain provided a full day off.
But why did it have to rain today of all days? Mother Nature must have a sense of humor. This morning, the painters were supposed to start staining the wood trim on the house. Oh well. We did need the rain. Although I was hoping the stain work would be finished by Friday, the painters probably can at least get started on Thursday. Their job will be a several days project. But after tomorrow morning sprinkles, the next 10 days look dry again.
