What a Mess 3-29-25

And Running Out of Time

The landscape designer is out of town, so I can't speak to him directly.
So, I've been sending him emails trying to explain why his plans are NOT working for what I want.

We're scheduled to have plants put in within the next 2 to 3 weeks, and things just aren't lining up on paper. Since I have been forced to do most of my own planning (despite paying someone to do the job), I'm about burnt out.

The most recent plans done by the pro are farther away from what I want than even the one before. I asked for a two-plant change, but somehow everything got changed!!! I wanted one or at most 2 golden mops, and he put in 6 of them. I wanted to replace the 3 arborvitaes (which I did like but which deer also consider candy) with a different evergreen. He took out the 3 arborvitae and put in 9 rose of Sharons which arent even evergreens. I don't recognize the design now. He also turned the 5 black honeysuckles at the back edge into 9 dead center. The new design is absolutely ugly. However, that's not shown above. I'm so sick of trying to straighten that mess out on paper, that I don't want to look at it again today. Above is just the general planter mound which is shown as being in the wrong place.

The above area is probably the least problematic. If necessary, the trees can wait until Fall. But the fairly large, raised planter mound will be planted in a couple of weeks or so. Before that, it must be moved to where I've been telling everyone - since last spring - exactly where I want to have it. The mound will have a crab apple tree and somewhere between 20 to 25 other plants, so it's no little deal. Now, the mound seems to have been moved East to allow the landscaper to frame it with the Norway Spruces. I thought the trees would make a potential view blocker of the McDonald's like play yard across the street. Now, I regret mentioning them.

The raised mound is my primary concern at this point. The tree screen was an afterthought. The trees can be dealt with at some other time, or I can just live with the horrible view across the street.

I'm now just so tired from spending most of my day trying to explain (via bullet point email and detailed drawings) what I want. We discussed all this in person 5 days ago, but the new plans reflect nothing said. What was a minor problem has become a major problem.

Well, this final marked up drawing may not make a lot of sense because I'm so tired now. But I do want the landscaper to at least realize that he has put the mound in the wrong place (on paper at least) before workers come out with the wrong plants and want to put them pysically in the wrong place.

If things on paper are a major headache, I can just imagine what that situation would be.
