New Plants in the Landscape 11-06-24

Verbascum thapsus "Mullein"

After unsuccessfully contacting the landscape designer (who is supposed to be handling our relandscaping project) both last Friday and again this Monday, I noticed today that we now have brand new plants in the old planter beds. My husband cleaned those beds out early last Spring, for the landscaping company to work their magic by adding brand new plants.

Unfortunately, Nature - not the landscape folks - added these new plants. They are tucked underneath the dogwood tree, which is the only thing we decided to keep along the driveway or front walk. Some people would call the above plants weeds. I do myself. In all honesty, when we removed the old bushes to add new plants, this was not at all what I had in mind.

Nevertheless, I've discovered that some people are willing to actually pay money to buy this kind of plant to add to their landscaping. https://mountainvalleygrowers.com/organic-plants/verbascum-thapsus-mullein/

IMO, $8 seems to be a hefty price to pay for a weed in a 3-inch pot. The smallest plant in the grouping above would probably fit into an 8-inch pot. The others are much bigger. Wow!!! Because the landscapers haven't yet done anything with landscaping, I've unexpectedly hit gold!!! Maybe I should go into the mail-order plant business. These Mullein certainly do look healthy. Next Spring, they'll even flower.

EXTRA NOTE: Grass is not supposed to be growing here. That's another bonus of the landscaper's long delay.
