The Kitchen Sink We Have Decided to Get 10-16-24

Kohler's Iron Tones Split Divide65/35

I don't know what this color is, but we have decided on the Aspen Green and this sink model.

Why this sink?

A double sink offers:
1) both flexibility and convenience:
2) Separation of Tasks: Use one side for washing and the other for rinsing or drying.
3) Multi-Tasking: Handle multiple kitchen tasks simultaneously.
4) Enhanced Organization: Keep dirty dishes separate from clean ones, reducing clutter.
5) Versatility: Fit larger pots and pans more easily by using both basins.
6) Versatility 2: You can use one side for washing dishes and the other for rinsing or drying. This separation makes kitchen tasks more efficient.
7) Space Management: Having two basins helps manage space better. You can soak pots and pans in one basin while still having another basin free for other tasks.
8) Organization: It allows you to keep dirty dishes and clean dishes separate, reducing clutter and keeping your workspace organized.
9) Multitasking: You can prepare food on one side while keeping the other side clear for other tasks, like washing vegetables.
10) Flexibility: Different sink sizes (like 35-65) cater to different needs, offering both a large basin for bulky items and a smaller one for prep work. These advantages can significantly improve kitchen workflow, making it a functional and enjoyable space.

For example,
1) In a double bowl sink, one can use the smaller basin to soak items, freeing up the larger side for other tasks.
2) Food Prep: Wash vegetables and fruits without taking up space in the main basin.
Use it to drain pasta or vegetables, keeping the larger basin free for washing up.
3) Handwashing Delicate Items: Perfect for handwashing fragile dishes or delicate kitchen tools.
4) Cleaning Small Pets: If you have small pets like we do, you can use the smaller basin for cleaning them.

In essence, a double sink can make kitchen workflow smoother and more efficient.

There are different sized double bowl sinks. A 35-65 double sink in offers balance of functionality and space.
Here are some benefits of this kind of layout:

1) Increased Space: The larger basin (65%) provides ample room for washing big pots and pans, while the smaller basin (35%) is perfect for prep work or soaking dishes.
2) Versatility: You can use one side for food prep and the other for cleaning, making multitasking in the kitchen much easier.
3) Improved Organization: Separating tasks into two basins helps keep your kitchen more organized and reduces clutter.
4) Aesthetic Appeal: The double sink adds a modern touch to your kitchen, making it look more spacious and stylish

The Kohler Iron/Tones® Smart Divide® 33" Top-/Undermount Double-Bowl Kitchen Sink (shown above) is a stylish option.

Here are some key features of this specific sink that made me chose it rather than something else:

1) Material: Enameled cast iron, which is durable and resistant to chipping, cracking, and burning.
2) Smart Divide®: The low divider allows easy washing of large items while providing the benefits of a double-bowl sink, like separating prep and clean-up tasks.
3) Dimensions: 33 inches in length, with a depth of 9 inches, providing generous workspace.
4) Aesthetic Appeal & Versatility: Can be installed as a top-mount or undermount, fitting different kitchen styles and configurations. (Although undermount is currently hotter in style, I prefer top mount)

********************************

The low divide feature in the Kohler Iron/Tones® Smart Divide® model provides some key benefits:

1) Ease of Washing Large Items: The lower partition allows you to wash and rinse larger items, like baking sheets and pans, without splashing water everywhere or having to maneuver awkwardly.
2) Versatility: You still get the benefits of a double sink with the flexibility of a larger single basin when needed. Great for multitasking!
3) Efficient Use of Space: It allows you to fill one side with soapy water for washing, while still having access to the other side for rinsing.
4) Ergonomics: Less strain on your back and arms because you're not lifting heavy items over a high divide.

Although most people may not think a lot about kitchen sinks, this sink offers the best of both worlds—a split sink with the functionality of a larger basin. And that is what I want.

********************************

An older model to this sink is what we currently have in the kitchen. So, getting this new one will feel familiar and go along with how we use a kitchen sink. Obviously because a kitchen sink choice is so important, I've done a lot of research to see if anything else fits us better. Nothing does. This kind of sink suits as just as well today as it did 35 years ago when we built our house. The new sink will come without the metal (in the photo) which we don't have now and don't need. I want to enjoy my sink's beauty and not a metal grate.
