Excessive Heat 8-24-23

The poor deer above was panting like a dog and moving like a turtle as it crossed our yard. It was obviously suffering from the extreme heat.

***************
Today was another miserable & unbearably hot day. I've lost track, but I think this is Day #11 or #12 of the current, deadly heat wave. High today was 104 Fahrenheit (or 40 Celsius) actual temperature with an even higher Heat Index.

Plants, wildlife, pets, humans, structures, roads, the soil beneath our feet are all suffering from this seemingly never-ending heat. Tomorrow is supposed to be another day like today.

A heat dome, sitting stagnant for so long over the region, is not normal. Could this be a sign of Climate Change?

***************

AccuWeather said the cause of the extreme temperatures is a "massive heat dome" that's parked over the central U.S.

A heat dome occurs when a persistent region of high pressure traps heat over an area, according to William Gallus, professor of atmospheric science at Iowa State University.

It has been "a bubble of high pressure and warm air that suppresses clouds and rain and diverts the storm track well to the north. When those happen in the heart of summer, they can lead to extended heat waves near their core."

Sad picture of its distress.

it´s hard for people, and I guess it´s very hard for animals too.V

Great example/image of what wild has to endure during these excessive and prolonged high temperatures. Animals suffer, plants suffer, food sources wilt away etc. etc.. Add to this all the forest fires that that kill wildlife and destroy their habitat.

Poor deer, and poor you and your family. Yes, I'd say this is definitely a sign of climate change.

Your photo completely exemplifies the terrible stress of such heat. I find anything over +20 unbearable, so can empathise with this poor animal and anyone who suffers from such oppressive heat.
