In the decades it's been at the corner of our driveway and front walk, this dogwood tree has never before failed to give me a glorious Spring display: https://pbase.com/britestar/image/169116812
However, the weather has been so strange this year (20 degrees one day and 90 degrees the next - plus back and forth). As a result, the dogwood didn't seem to have enough energy to produce flowers. The few that did grow were stunted and pathetic. And I really mean "few".
However, the tree is alive with leaves. So, maybe next year will be better. This tree is usually gorgeous in the Spring and heavily covered in flowers. I always look forward to its flowering each year. It is normally the last of our Spring trees to bloom and has always been reliable until now. This year was such a disappointment.
