Life as Normal (1-29-22)

"Kansas City 20-somethings are not waiting out another round of COVID…"

“'So, I’m kind of honestly a little over it,' Samayee one college grad student said. 'You know, I’m 23 and I’m only gonna be 23 for so long. By the time COVID’s done maybe I’ll be, like, 27. Who knows how long this f------- thing goes for.'

"While the omicron variant is sending them to the hospital more than previous strains, this age group tends arrive at the hospital relatively healthy, and they're not getting as sick as older or younger patients. But hospitalizations overall are up dramatically. And people are still dying.

“At some point you have to move on,” Hammond a bar waitress 27 said, throwing her hands in the air. “And we’re still in the middle of it but it’s been long enough that you have the feeling of, like, needing to move on. It’s like grief or something.”

"For 29-year-old Contraras, a Marine sitting at a bar enjoying a heaping platter of nachos, this latest phase of the pandemic has, ironically, brought a feeling of liberation. He said he’s heard Dr. Anthony Faucci say we’ll probably all come down with the virus eventually. So why postpone it?

"But the numbers are still staggering. There's been more than a nine-fold increase over the last six months in new COVID cases in Missouri, according to the New York Times COVID tracker.

"Samayee said that people his age don't care about other people —It's just that this has gone on too long. 'You know, I’m OK going out, doing whatever right now,' he said. 'It seems like that’s what people are doing, people my age, at least.'"

Otherwise

“You might want to stay away from these places and situations where,
"experts say, you're most likely to catch Omicron:

1) Large Gatherings

2) Visiting Your Local Bar

3) Hanging With a Sick Person
“While maybe thinking all is fine to just hang out, you're putting yourself at risk if everyone doesn’t have a current, negative PCR.”

This Weekend

“KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City Chiefs fans who can’t get their hands on one of the more than 70,000 tickets to Sunday’s AFC Divisional Game now have a new place to watch.

"The Chiefs take over Country Road Ice House in the Power & Light District this weekend
Fans will also be able to try the Chiefs’ “DeciBooth” for bragging rights and to see just how loud they can get while cheering the Chiefs to victory. The DeciBooth is a custom pop-up made just for the postseason. Fans step inside the booth and a decibel reader will measure an individuals 'level of loud’ while a camera captures video. Fans can then share the video.”

Oh, Those Pesky Doctors…

“KANSAS CITY, Kan. (WIBW) - Kansas City area doctors have warned fans headed to the Kansas City Chiefs playoff game to get boosted and mask up as hospitals continue to see record-breaking COVID-19 trends. The University of Kansas Health System says it has another record-breaking number of COVID-19 patients on Friday. We can say COVID doesn’t affect us, but that’s about as effective as shouting at a Category 5 hurricane." WBIW News

“'The likelihood of getting the virus, even if you’ve been vaccinated and had it, you can take it home and share it to whoever your family members are, is not going to be insignificant this weekend,' Dr Stites said."

If you’re coming to the Chiefs’ Game at Arrowhead
Or are celebrating at a wide range of local Kansas City Metro bars…

Remember:

No Masks Required
No Social Distancing Measures
No Vaccination Requirements
No Other potential COVID Restrictions
---------------------------------------------

From the Chiefs' Web Site
Arrowhead Stadium Covid-19 guidelines updated on November 5, 2021:

"An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present, including GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. By entering the stadium and stadium grounds, you voluntarily assume all risk related to exposure to COVID-19. Please review the Ticket Terms and Conditions prior to your arrival at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium."

However, there is a suggestion (but not requirement) that fans should follow "The CDC Guidelines"; plus, "Those that are most vulnerable to COVID-19 should exercise extra caution and follow CDC Guidelines".

Fans are free to take these suggestions however they like. It is most likely that you won't see any masks at either the stadium or at the many Metro bars celebrating the Playoffs... All venues will also be packed to maximin capacity.

Agree with Dave's comment. Yep, everyone for his/herself and no more "we're all in it together". Sad.

The attitudes shown here are why we may all get covid, and a lot more people will die in the process. Thanks for sharing! V

This sounds like a "free ticket to the infection", and "Satisfaction guarantee"....
