An attempted coup at the US National Capital (egged on by the current US president who has been voted out of office & is now desperate) dominated World attention yesterday. Therefore, I skipped mentioning the latest US COVID data for Wednesday. However, COVID-19 didn’t spare the citizens of the USA. US cases, hospitalizations, and deaths all hit historic “all time” single day records on Wednesday.
Horrifyingly, today's death count already breaks yesterday’s unbelievable record. More than 4,000 Covid-19 deaths were recorded in a single day in the United States for the first time on Thursday, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. At least 4,051 deaths tied to Covid-19 have been reported, according to the university.
May those now departed not be forgotten. As I’ve said time and time before, each life lost was a real person who meant something. The mind staggering statistics (attached to the pandemic) may numb those who see the numbers. Even so, none of us should forget that the statistics mean far more than merely abstract large numbers. Each life taken by COVID was a real & unique individual who should still be here today… The numbers represent them. Therefore today marks another sad day in history.
I really want to be able to end this gallery by being able to say that everything is “okay” again. No more horrible statistics. No more loss of life from this novel virus. No more sadness. No more fear. No more social isolation. Just the “old normal” again. But it is obvious, that won’t be happening this Winter. Instead, things continue to worsen. I'm not sure I have the fortitude to keep recording what is happening outside the security of our Stay-at-Home isolation. Day after day of bad COVID news has been extremely stressful. It involves far more than "just being stuck at home".
The photo above is again digital art from a photograph I took. I also have other brand new photos of realistic, pretty flowers. Still, I’m ignoring those because pretty, “normal” flowers don’t fit the mood of the day. When looking at what the virus has done today, I can only feel sad. At the same time, those-now-gone because of the virus also do deserve remembrance. The above flower is for them.
