An unique and different view. Yes, a little hazy but IMO totally fascinating. Read the story.
While waiting for some action from the local wildlife, I accidently bumped against my big 600mm lens. Looking to see what I had bumped, I noticed a “reflection” in the front glass of the lens. Looking more closely, this reflection in the 600mm glass wasn’t a normal reflection.
Instead, I was actually seeing thru the front end of the lens and back out the 1Dx camera’s view finder on the opposite end.
Intriguing. So I took a photo of what I saw with the little Bridge Camera that I had in my hand. I don’t know if using another DSLR would have been any clearer than a tiny sensor camera or not. Probably not. I had to use some zoom to get focus on the yard scene; that was obtained by shooting through from the front glass of the 600mm lens, through that lens, through the camera's mirror system, and then out of the Canon 1Dx’s viewfinder.
Not the greatest photo in the world, but certainly a most interesting experience that I wanted to record.
I’ve seen the inside of other lenses from the glass end before. But this is the first time that I’ve ever seen completely thru both the lens and camera body to see the the scene behind the camera body. The little circle and square on the landscape in the photo are focal markings inside the 1Dx’s camera viewfinder. Of course, the 1Dx was “asleep” at the time. I’m somewhat surprised those view finder, focal point marks (seen above) showed up; along with the reverse scene. As mentioned, the scene I saw, being reflected in the lens, was the scene BEHIND the camera body - not the scene in front of the lens.
I’ve personally found seeing this reverse “look” - via attached “big glass” - through a DSLR camera body interesting. BTW, yes, the wildlife did show up & the 600mm lens & the 1Dx body then got used in a normal manner. Although this image is kind of funky, those images are sharp. VBG.
