10 days ago, Bailey broke her foot. We don't know how. She was playing one moment & limping the next.

Because we're now limited to only doing a vet drop off, the vet put a "ready made" cast on Bailey that was meant for a 25 pound dog at the smallest. Bailey weighs 3 pounds. As soon as I took Bailey out of the carrier when she got home, I saw that she was totally panicked and in great distress. She started to fling her leg around with a cast that was about as long as she is in total!!! It was about 6 inches longer than her leg and huge.

I didn't take a photo of that cast. Instead, we immediately rushed her back to the vet for an "emergency" cast replacement. By the time we got back to the vet's office (5 minutes away), she had slipped that huge cast off her leg.

The cast seen in the above photo was then custom made to fit Bailey's tiny leg. Trying to make sure that nothing bad happened (that might require a trip to the emergency clinic), Bailey had her cast checked by the vet Saturday morning before the long weekend. But then on Sunday night, she slipped her tiny leg out of the cast in the photo. No, she didn't chew it off. Bailey isn't a chewer. There also isn't a mark on the cast. She merely slipped her leg out of all the padding. Hopefully, she doesn't harm her foot again before we can get her back to the vet again tomorrow morning & have another cast put on.

Labor Day was the very first day (since the hawk appeared on the scene back in mid July) that Bailey has been out on our deck. A few minutes on the deck was a treat because all the dogs have been confined for so long; especially Bailey who temporarily now doesn't even have free run of the house. She's a jumper & might hurt her broken foot. Nothing happened while she was out on the deck in the afternoon. However, when she went outside to quickly go potty for the last time at night, the cast came off.

2020 has been such an awful year. Last week, 5 out of 6 days were spent going back & forth to the vet with Bailey or Chile. Tomorrow, it's back to the vet again: for both Bailey and Chile.
