Squirrely

Bella and Chile had a blast barking at him.

COVID-19 News for 7-10-20

"New Cases in U.S. Soar Past 68,000, Shattering Previous Record
The number of daily global cases also broke a record, with the United States as the biggest source of new infections. The U.S. death toll is also on the rise." NY Times

This is only a slice of today's bad news.
However, I feel reporting anything more has become too overwhelming.

Fortunately, the worst thing in my own Stay-at-Home isolation life today was that I had filled up a 64 Gig CF card with images of a non repeatable series I've been working on. Then before I could download the card , it became corrupted. Everything was fine in the camera but not in the card reader. After that, nothing could read the card. Those images are now totally gone. Very disappointing, but not world altering when you look at what is happening in the outside world. Fortunately, losing photos is not "life & death" serious.

Strangely, this was my third memory card this week to bite the dust. All 3 were Lexar and had never given me any problems in the past. My husband was able to recover the images off the first two cards (also 64 Gig), but the card today apparently experienced an electrical short & is not recoverable. I'm not exactly sure of what is going on, but they say bad luck comes in threes... Why is it, that the most meaningful images ended up being non recoverable? Luck was really with me in superior photo opts for the day. I got some shots I could only dream of. But then, luck wasn't with me in getting the images to my server.

In 19 years of doing digital photography, this is only the second time that I've totally lost everything. The data on most failed memory cards is normally recoverable. Once a memory card fails (even after I recover the data), I then will not use it again. With the cards I lost this week all being the same size Lexar, I assume all were purchased at the same time. So maybe that's why things went bad at the same time. Still, it has been strange to experience 3 corrupted Memory Cards in 3 straight days.

The squirrel above was taken a couple of days ago. He was interesting to watch, but I would have gladly sacrificed this image for the ones that were lost today.

How peculiar that all cards failed at roughly the same time! Not a happy situation.

Such a sad story about your memory cards, Liz. I have had it happen to me on occasions in the past and I have lost images along the way. Its annoying as you can never retake the same exact moments in time again. Cute squirrel..V
