Today's News Headlines
"The vast majority of July 4 (public) fireworks displays in big cities and small rural towns have been canceled. Most politicians are foregoing the traditional parades and flag-waving appearances. President Trump, however, has a different, discordant message: The sparkly, booming show must go on at all costs. Mr. Trump traveled to South Dakota on Friday evening for a massive fireworks display at the Mount Rushmore National Memorial, a made-for-TV patriotic display that he has spent years lobbying to revive. (There have been no fireworks at Mount Rushmore since 2009 because of fears that they would set off forest fires and contaminate groundwater.)" Social distancing of attendees tonight did not take place. In fact, audience chairs were tied together; squeezing people together. Masks were not required.
Trump "plans to follow up his trip with a 'Salute to America' celebration tomorrow on the South Lawn at the White House, including a military flyover and a massive fireworks display on the National Mall.
Washington’s mayor, Muriel Bowser, has warned this violates local health guidelines."
"Mr. Trump consistently downplays concerns over new cases, claiming that young people 'get better much easier and faster' and that the virus will 'just disappear.'” In the face of consistently, undeniable, high infection rates, the White House's new message will now be that the rest of America will just have to learn to live with the virus. Life in America should go on just the same as it always has.
"Even as Americans find some beaches closed and Fourth of July fireworks scarce, authorities fear the holiday weekend still may worsen the already ravaging coronavirus pandemic." Private parties and get togethers will aide the spread. At this very moment, one of our own neighbors is hosting their second, large party this week!!! Healthy young people getting COVID now may not get as ill as some others, but they will eventually also pass it on to the more vulnerable. Thus, a surge in coronavirus death rates undoubtedly is in America's late July/August future. The US surgeon general urges caution on US Covid-19 death rate: “We know deaths lag at least two weeks” after infection.
COVID-19 Virus has mutated to become more infectious!!!
Therefore, social distancing is more needed now than ever before. Unfortunately, a fair percentage of Americans are totally dismissing that idea. "The US reported Friday at least 51,842 new cases, marking the third day straight with a daily high of more than 50,000 cases, according to data from Johns Hopkins University."

Raccoons are cute in the wild - BUT I want to see them away from human homes. Based on our own negative, past experiences with raccoons, I was not overly happy to see the above fellow today. I'm assuming it is a male since he was sooo big.
