USA

819,175 cases of COVID-19
45,279 American Deaths

Milestone: The USA now has exceeded 800 thousand, confirmed cases of coronavirus.
The US now has more cases of the virus than all of Europe combined.

Without a plan, our governor plans to "open up" our state two weeks from now on May 4th.
Testing is not going to be available. Deaths from COVID continue to be on the rise. Still, the state is just going to open.
The governor admits that avoidable deaths will happen as a result, but that is just the price we have to pay.

I desperately need a professional mani/pedi & would love to have a relaxing full body massage; plus also get my hair trimmed. Those services will all be available again on May 4th. However, I frankly can't see how the nail salon worker, the massage therapist, and the hair dresser can do what they do & keep a "safe" 6 foot distance away from the client. So I will continue to forgo the luxury beauty treatments. Instead, we will stay at home & watch (from a safe distance) the news. We will see what happens with others.

Dr Fauci has rather said that an abrupt opening of society too soon could be disastrous & lead to an unnecessary loss of life; plus a new spike in COVID. Fauci said a gradual process (to somewhat get American life "somewhat" back to working again) will be required based on the status of the pandemic in various parts of the U.S. PLUS the availability of rapid, widespread testing. Once the number of people who are seriously ill sharply declines, officials can begin to “think about a gradual reentry of some sort of normality, some rolling reentry,” Fauci said. Not before.

Yet many US states are opening up ASAP; before any guidelines are achieved. Advisements from U.S. coronavirus team are being ignored. Our state plans to skip the testing and instead go straight to opening all businesses. They are not going to wait for virus decline. Our governor plans to follow the model of what various Southern state governors are already doing. I guess like in Georgia now, we'll be able to get a tattoo, too, in another two weeks... A skull & cross bones maybe.

More than spending time in quarantine, the irrationality (and flip flopping and lies) of our President and his close followers has turned my world upside down. The lack of caring for human life is unacceptable IMO. Many other Americans feel as I do. Yet "politics" - not science nor compassion - is leading the way.

We ALL matter. Human life should come before politics.

I really like what you've done here with the shot and commentary, which go together nicely. What some southern Governors are doing might be excusable if the experiment of early opening during a pandemic hadn't already been tried in 1918- most notably in Denver. There a sudden resurgence of cases caused a rebound spike in deaths. Once again we may be seeing history repeating itself, but I sure hope not for the sake of our citizens in the South.

Fascinating image. Intriguing and portentous mood with the pretty signs of spring seemingly trapped and unavailable. V.

What a great image to express the situation we are in, Liz. Its always good to read your messages of how things are going in the USA but by this, it isn't good news at all if it goes ahead on the 4th May. Stay safe and be well.V

I like your shot - a clever blurring looking past the barrier ! V
Your comments are always interesting - we fear for you all when priorities get manipulated for political gain.

Things are in a dire situation with your President's constant finger-pointing, about face, lies, etc. with the end result that so many more lives are going to be endangered and lost. Already the number is staggering, hard to take in. It is completely irresponsible. Your image so well represents the way things are now. V

I sure hope you are incorrect Liz, but I rather doubt it. For your country, and ours too, it would be totally irresponsible to just open things up until the virus is more-or less under control and plans have been put in place to do it in a safe and organized manner.

BTW, I like your image, it illustrates our situations well.
