A Dark Day for Women 2019

Women's rights have been set back today: https://www.cnn.com/politics/live-news/missouri-abortion-bill/index.html

Although I'd heard stories of generations in the past, I never thought I'd see such a thing in my lifetime. Women now are not allowed to be in control of their own bodies like men are. What is next? Will females once again also be considered "the property" of men like in the Dark Ages??? Will a "Handmaiden's Tale" become our future? In the state where I live, women are obviously considered inferior. Instead, they are nothing more than political pawns.

Missouri already has one of the highest rates of maternal mortality in America. That is on top of the USA itself having one of the highest rates of deaths - due to pregnancy and child birth - in the industrial world. Things are now only going to get worse.

Victims of rape and incest will now be required to have the baby; despite being impregnated by an act against their will. All females able to conceive - no matter what their circumstances - are covered by the new Missouri law. Here's how one male legislator (opposing the bill) summed up this sad day in US history: "There is not a single thing in this world that a male can experience that would come close to the indignity of being legally forced to carry your rapist’s baby...If you can force an 11-year-old girl to carry her father’s baby to term — one that could very well harm her not just physically but mentally — that is not pro-life. You can’t say you’re pro-life when you are prepared to have a child risk her life to give birth to a rapist’s baby. That’s not pro-life."

I'm not particularly political. However, I do find this new, ultra rigid law (stemming from women being biologically different than men) a frightening step backwards in time. Women are human beings, too. Their lives - plus having a say about their lives - do matter. Obviously, this entire situation has sparked a lot of local controversary. Personally, I'm both pro life and pro choice. Yes, a woman can be both.

Anyhow, enjoy the photo.

A beautiful image. I agree about the darkness over our country. The majority of Americans don't agree with these extreme views, but the religious minority are having their (hopefully short) day.

Who makes these laws, probably people who don't live in a real world, have lots of money and are protected.....

A beautiful capture, but I agree with your sentiments. I never thought I'd see this regression in my lifetime, either, but here we are. It says something that the law was passed in Alabama entirely by white men...

This is a very powerful work of art. A dark brooding beauty that illustrates the fears that are so pervasive.
I hope your words are read by many for they are equally powerful!

Seen from Western Europe this decision seems completely upstream ! Nowadays so many things that seemed to have been taken for granted are being called into question... All this is very worrying!
A superb work to illustrate your sentiments. V.

This is an excellent image, Liz. I do agree with you, Gill and Don. Sad times...! V

Indeed, a dark day. This will likely go to the Supreme Court, but since the Republicans stole Obama's pick and Trump gave you Gorsuch and Kavanaugh, things do not look good. Depressing times in the USA.
