When my husband noticed the sky suddenly turn an unusual shade of yellow, I went outside with him to look. We've had severe weather - with flash flooding - for the past three days. Although there wasn't much chance of a tornado, this is tornado season. So we tend to keep more of an eye on anything unusual happening in the sky; including unusual colors. At first, I thought the color was merely the normal glow that can happen at sunset. You all know that kind of sky... It's a rich gold that comes after the rain stops just before dark; when the sun tries to also peek out.
However when I stepped completely outside, I was greeted by a full double rainbow across our back and side yards. That was a "wow" moment. Although I didn't have a lens wide enough to capture the entire scene, I did get a few photos of what was a truly beautiful sight. Because the sunset had changed the color of the entire sky, it wasn't easy to see the full color spectrum of the rainbow. Nevertheless, the scene in person was still gorgeous.
Then, about 5 minutes after I shot this image, it was totally dark outside.
Flash flooding is currently happening all over the Metro. Our backyard looks like a swamp. The River is also predicted to reach flood stage again: like it did back in late March: https://pbase.com/britestar/image/168990702 Even more rain is predicted tomorrow and Thursday.
However, it takes rain to make rainbows.
