Founded in 1989 in Amarillo, Abuelo’s offered authentic, scratch-made Mexican food in a slightly upscale atmosphere. Abuelo’s once had as many as 40 locations. However, fallout from the pandemic, including rising costs for food and labor, made for a difficult operating environment. It closed in the Kansas City area in 2021. But the memory lingers on. The food was good.
