In Search Of... I am a "weekend" fine art portrait photographer, currently working on several long-term projects that I need additional models for. **************** Visions Project The first, is an ongoing exploration of fantasy, pre-Raphaelite and Victorian classicism inspired images. The end results often look more like paintings, or frescos, than photographs, are usually in costume, and are heavily influenced by painters like Waterhouse, Godward, Alma-Tadema, Burne-Jones and Lord Leighton. For this project, I am looking for very young women with very fair skin, a look of innocence and sweetness, high cheekbones, large eyes, and long hair--the longer, the better. Body type is not as important as facial type--but since many of my costumes are vintage, and quite small, small and delicate builds are ideal. A timeless look is a must--if you look too modern, you simply won't work for this project! **************** Women of the Bible The second of my long-term projects, is based on famous (and not so famous) women or scenes in the Bible. For this project I am looking for women with more of an ethnic look--not necessarily mid-Eastern or Jewish--but with stronger features, large, expressive eyes, fuller lips, either dark or fair skin, and long dark hair--most especially hair with waves or curls. **************** What's In It For You? I offer TFCD/TFP for all of these projects...and a whole lot of fun. :-) I've got a closet full of romantic vintage clothing, modern clothing with a vintage flair, and costumes that I use for shoots...as well as trunks full of interesting props...and a great big pile of ideas. Bring your own ideas--and we'll have twice as much fun! :-) **************** Where Will The Shoots Be Held? At the moment, all shoots are in my studio (4 blocks from South Station in Boston), so the working conditions are warm in the winter, cool in the summer, and include a dressing room, soft music, and refreshments. **************** Also Looking For... I am also particularly interested in working with makeup artists, set designers or costumers who are skilled at creating vintage and period looks, and interested in long-term collaborations/relationships. (My costumer has moved away! :/) Anime costumers and period recreators are also welcome--you get pretty pictures of your costumes, and I get pretty pictures for my portfolio. **************** Disclaimer Please bear in mind that for at least two of these projects, I am looking for very particular looks--so if I don't choose to work with you on one of them, it's not because I don't think you're attractive (I assure you, I most likely do--I rarely see someone I don't find attractive in one way or another!), it's because you aren't the particular physical type I need for *that project*. And since my time is limited, even if I WANT to work with you, it might be some time before I can fit you in! **************** Can I Bring A Friend?/Safety Considerations Over 18 Models - I always suggest my over-18 models to bring a friend with them, to a first shoot--particularly in a situation like this, where you don't know me already! You don't have to...but it's a good idea, for your own comfort. If you're worried that I'm an axe murderer, or have unsavory intentions, you'll be stiff and uncomfortable in front of the camera, and it'll take longer for us to start getting useful shots. ;) Under 18 Models - If you are under 18, you MUST have a parent or guardian with you who can sign a model release, and chaperone you. This is for your protection, as well as mine--under no circumstances will a "friend" be considered a substitute for a parent or guardian. :-) **************** Are You Accessible By Public Transportation/Is There Parking? Yes, I am T accessible (4 blocks from South Station), two blocks from a Silver line stop...and there is also metered parking and relatively inexpensive parking lot parking within a 4 block radius. ($9-13 a day) There is SOME free parking...but you'll have to have more patience than I have, to find it. **************** So...if you're interested--let me know! Tell me a little bit about why you want to work with me--and which, if any, of the projects I've listed sounds appealing to you. If you have ideas you want to share--I'm interested in hearing about them--but bear in mind that my images are about grace and innocence and timelessness...I don't do "edgy" and I don't do overtly sexy. Don't have the interest--and frankly, wouldn't be any good at it...and besides, there are plenty of other good photographers out there who have it covered already! ;-) Do not be discouraged if I don't get back to you immediately...I often "save everything up" for weekends, and unfortunately, my workload is such that sometimes it may even take me months to get back to you--but I do try to respond to everyone who contacts me, whether I think we can work together or not! :-) More Details...For Those Who Need 'Em If you're new to working with me, scheduling a shoot basically consists of two parts--an initial meeting, and then the photo shoot, scheduled at a later date. Part 1 - Initial Meeting - at my studio in South Boston, on a weekend, between 12-6pm. Preliminary meetings will probably run a minimum of 2 hours, sometimes a little more, depending on how much we find to talk about, and how many costumes you try on. I require a parent or guardian be present if you are under 18...and if you're older 18, I simply suggest that you bring along a trusted escort, for your own comfort. You don't have to--but if it makes you feel more relaxed, it's worth it! :) Please try to be on time, as I often schedule preliminary meetings back to back...and if you're late, that's less time for us to find you the right costume and look. The initial meeting is to allow us to get to know each other a little, and see if we feel comfortable with each other, as well as for me to get an idea of what sort of a shoot I want to plan with you. I may ask you to bring some items of clothing (vintage clothing, a nude bodysuit or camisole, a corset, romantic, gauzy skirts or blouses), and I'll probably have you try on some various costumes and lengths of material. I will probably take a couple of test shots of you in the most promising outfits, to help me make decisions about your best look, later on. If I think I want to have something made for the shoot, I may need to take measurements for my costumer. I have a separate changing area, so you will have complete privacy. While we're talking, I'll be studying you, noticing how you move, and when you look your best, as well as mentally cataloging your less-than-stellar points, so I can plan to minimize them, while maximizing your good points. I'll be trying to figure out your personal communication style--so I have a better idea of how to get the responses I want from you, during a shoot. An initial meeting is also for you to ask me any questions you might have, and for you to view my TFP/TFCD agreement/release form, and ask for clarification about anything on it you might not understand completely. It's a good time to discuss things like whether or not you're interested in participating in more than one of the projects I'm working on--more of an ongoing collaboration--or if you're really only looking for a single session. I'll also want to know whether or not you wish to be referred to on websites by your name--and if so, how much of your name, or by what name. I book these meetings in 3 hour increments, and expect them to last from anywhere between 2-3 hours. At the end of the meeting, if we're ready, we can go ahead and book a shoot. I'll always give you the option to think it over some more, if you need to, and get back to me--it gives you an easy way to say, "Thanks, but no thanks", without having to do it to my face, if you're not comfortable with being that direct! ;) Part 2 - The Shoot - at my studio, on a weekend, most likely between 12-6pm--although I'm more flexible with shoot times, than with meeting times! :) Again, if you're under 18, a parent or guardian must accompany you--and if you're over 18, you're more than welcome to bring along an escort. It's not required, but I have no problem with it. I'll let you know ahead of time what, if anything, I'd like you to bring, but generally it's a good idea to come without makeup on (or with only a light base), and bring along your foundation, powder, and mascara, as well as any other cosmetics we may have discussed, or you think we might use. Your own brush and comb is good, also. I'll either have an MUA or (in most cases) will make you up myself, as I probably will have a very specific look in mind for the shoot. Those of you who are proud of your tanned skin--be warned: you'll probably look much paler, by the time I get through with you, as many of my ideas involve very fair skin! ;) I'll also provide costumes, if we've discussed that--and it is likely that I'll have you do anywhere from one to four different outfits for the shoot. I would expect to spend 2-4 hours per shoot--including the time it takes to do makeup, hair and costume changes. More time for more costume/hair/makeup changes--less time, for fewer. While the average shoot is 2-3 hours, I've had them last as long as 8 hours--so if you have time constraints, make sure I know about them when you show up, so I can help you keep an eye on the clock! I will have you sign the TFP/TFCD agreement/model release you looked at during your initial meeting. If you're under 18, your accompanying parent or guardian will sign for you. If you're between 25 and 18, I'll want to photograph you with a legal picture ID (state ID, driver's license, passport) showing your age, in case there's ever any question about your age in the photos. 25's just an arbitrary cutoff point for me--mostly because it's around 25 or so that most people's skin begins to look more mature--and is less likely to be taken for under 18. ;) During the shoot, I will generally pose you in a position I like, and then laugh and joke with you until you relax, and I'm able to get the look I'm going for. I'll demonstrate poses for you, as well as describe them, when necessary--but will also allow you to move around the set naturally somewhat, asking you to "hold it", when I see something I like. I'll have light refreshments available before and during the shoot, and expect you to let me know if you're feeling uncomfortable, need a break, a drink, etc. Whatever we're doing, it can always wait a few minutes! ;) I do ask that you keep cell phones turned off, during a shoot, as the best images from a shoot occur when we both sort of get in a zone where we're cocooned against the outside world--and a cell phone ringing shatters the mood--and it may be difficult to recover that. After the Shoot - At the end of the shoot, I'll reiterate the delivery time for web proofs (usually one week from the shoot), and I will be back in touch with you when they are complete. The delivery time for your agreed upon CD or print(s) will be related to when you get back to me with your final selections--not from the time of the shoot. (Ie, four weeks from the time you get back to me with your selections--not four weeks from the shoot.) Contact Information: It's always best to contact me by email--as this means I have a reminder in my Inbox, that I haven't responded yet! :-) You can reach me at: aurora at GraceNotesPhotography dot com - replacing the "at" and "dot" with the proper symbols, of course! ;) The day of a shoot or meeting, I will be keeping an eye on both my phone, and my email--so you can use either at that point. For all other times--email's the best. (I'll provide my phone number when we schedule a meeting.) Location: My loft/studio in South Boston - directly behind the Children's Museum, four blocks from South Station. This is both my home and my workspace, and is open by appointment only. 33 Sleeper St #303, Boston, MA 02210. Click here, for Directions: https://pbase.com/briarrose/directions By public transportation - South Station (red line) is the nearest T stop--a mere four blocks away, but Aquarium (blue line), Downtown Crossing (orange line), and Park St (green line) are all within an easy 10-15 minute walk, through the downtown/financial/waterfront areas. Parking: there is plenty of metered parking within a four block radius of Sleeper St--but the meter maids are aggressive about ticketing if you're over the limit, so try not to cut it close. There is also some non-resident parking on Congress St (a few blocks away from Sleeper),if you care to look for it, and for the truly lazy (like myself!) there are parking lots all around within a four block radius of Sleeper St. Parking ranges from $9 a day, to $23 a day, so look around for the best deal. (The lot on Seaport Blvd, at the corner of Sleeper St, is probably the least expensive for a day--but don't take my word for it--look around.) TFP/TFCD Offer While it is not set in stone, my current TFP/TFCD offer for single person shoots(subject to change in the future--and multi-person shoots will vary!) is your choice of either 4 retouched images resized for web use only (in other words, these will can NOT be used as prints--as the quality won't be good enough!), or 2 images edited for print size (this will include one web-sized image of each of the print retouches, as well). (Printable images take considerably more time to retouch than web-size only, as the retouching work must be much more exact--hence the difference in numbers.) Images may be all realistic retouching, or they may be more fantasy-inspired--if you have a preference, you should let me know before I begin retouching, and I'll do my best to accomodate you. I retain copyright ownership, but all of the images can be used to promote your modeling in any fashion, and if you choose the 2 printable images, these can even be used in a calendar, poster, or anything else that you might want to offer "fans"--you can sell them for personal use--just not for commercial use. (Ie, you can sell 100 individual copies of one of the prints to friends, family, and fans--but you can't sell them to a greeting card company.) Why don't I just offer you a CD of all the images from the shoot, as many photographers do? Because my work is not simply photography--it's photography, plus post-processing...and it's the combination that gives my work its unique quality. I don't want YOU looking anything other than the best I can make you look--and I don't want anything out there that isn't showing my very best work, either. By limiting the output from a shoot to only a few items, and editing them to the best of my ability, both of us look professional! Finally, I offer you the right, in perpetuity, to purchase prints of anything that I have chosen to retouch *at a printable size* from the shoot at any time--simply by contacting me and asking me. I'll upload the image in question to my lab of choice (currently mpix.com), and you can purchase prints at their printing cost, plus shipping. In other words, if three years from the shoot I decide to revisit the images, and wind up making a smashing fine art print from one of the images, and you see it online--you can buy it for the cost of the print. Right now, that would be about $2 for an 8x10 (plus shipping). (The catch is--I may never use anything from the shoot, so there may never be additional edited images...and there's always the possibility that I might edit something at web-size only. I try not to--but sometimes I do.)
