We had 2 weeks Austria in July 2018 where we travelled to Mayerhofen in the Zillertal Alps of Austria and hiked west from there backpacking between mountain huts.
Our route followed a line north of the Austrian Italian border, staying high up in the mountains and making use of the 'hohenweg' (high level route) trail systems. Starting in the Zillertal, we then crossed a road at the Brenner Pass to hike into the Stubai Alps and finally into the Otztal Alps from the ski resort of Obergurgl to finish at the small town of Vent. A lovely hike over steep and dramatic glaciated mountains! Also see our hiking blog
