There's something very special about taking your children into the high country...
the solitude, the peace, the wonder of an amazing place. I took my second backpacking
trip into the High Sierra with my daughter Andrea early in August, after spending a
day at the Bristlecone Pine forest across the valley. It was another very special
Father / Daughter event which I'll never forget.

We first arrived at the Bristlecone Pine forest at about 4:00 PM, and decided to go for a nice
hike. We got a bit carried away, and ended up on top of an 11,000 ft peak where we stayed to watch
sunset / moonrise from the glorious vantage. Hiking down in the dark, we made plans for
our next couple days backpacking in the Sierras.

This time around we hiked from the North Lake trailhead up into Humphreys Basin for a couple
days. The weather was outrageously wonderful, perfectly clear (not a single cloud for 4
days!) with enough of a breeze to keep most of the mosquitoes off. We hiked where we wanted,
stopped as we pleased, and camped in the most beautiful places in the world!
