Verdent green is not a color you see often in Sedona, but in the Spring, the desert comes alive, and brings to Red Rock country the perfect color compliment to the red of the rocks. On this evening I marvelled at how the desert had been transformed since the last time I was there. Flowers were everywhere; the grass was thick and green, everything was humming with life and new growth; and there was a softness to this harsh country which was palatable. High cirrus clouds diminished the usual brilliant red sunset colors, softening the scene to reflect very much the feeling of that day. This image was composed to bring together those elements.
If you look close, you'll notice some darkening of the sky near the center of the top of the image. This is the result of polarizing with an ultra-wide angle lens; that is, the darkening of the sky produced by the polarizer is uneven across the angle of view of the lens. While first unintentional, I ended up liking the photograph with this uneven sky better than those without the polarization. It tends to draw the eye toward the center of the image, much like the intentional darkening of the perimiter of an photograph can do.
