This was taken very near the location of "Aspen Study #1", but looking straight up just prior to sunset. Working so close to these trees meant that any slight alteration of the camera position dramatically changed the orientation of the trunks in the image, and relative to another. For example, I only had to move the camera a half inch for the large trunk on the right and the smaller tree immediately above it to merge together. The relationship between the aspens and their environment is interpreted much differently in this image. Here, they are free, tall, sky-scraping trees with what one could only imaging is a great view. In most of the other "Aspen Study" images, a much more somber and intimate approach is taken to render more of the subtle, and quiet feeling of the places... This image isn't somber - it screams with freedom.
