3:26 PM. The start of another afternoon/sunset photo session at Mono Lake. While it was mostly cloudy when I was driving to the area,
the clouds were quickly dissipating and I could tell it was going to be a glorious evening.
As one approaches the South Tufa field you gently drop down to near lake level on the gravel road. If you stop short of the trail head, you can get a nice perspective looking somewhat down onto the lake, and any lake tufa therein. This was taken from up on the access road, with my Canon 70-200 f/4 L. While I would have loved to have taken this shot in the pink glow of the hushed, quiet late evening, I actually like the daytime interpretation here, especially with the dappling of the shadows giving great depth and definition to the ridges in the background. 1/1500, f/5.6.
