The great exhibition of 1851 which took place alongside here raised a profit of £186,000 and Prince Albert ,Queen Victorias husband wanted to use the money for a hall of science and art.But he died in 1861 from the rotten drains at Windsor Castle,and the Queen spent the money on this instead.
