September 2005 we took a swing through Nevada, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho (again), Washington and Oregon. 3445 miles in eleven days. Our goal was to visit Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks but our route took us through varied and interesting scenery, a few dirt roads (about 60 miles total) and Craters of the Moon National Monument and Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument. We also traveled several hundred miles on the Lewis and Clark Trail, meeting up with the Corps of Discovery re-enactment group atop Lolo Pass on the Montana/Idaho border.
