Both trails we used are also used by the mule teams to transport visitors and supplies into the canyon. The trail is constantly being maintained and some sections are in better shape than others. Logs are placed across the trail to stabilize it but they create steps, every few feet at times, which are hard on hiker's muscles and joints going both down and up.
