After a short plane ride we arrived in the ancient city of Thebes, now called Luxor. This is where we boarded the river boat. Our first tour was to the Temple of Luxor built by two Pharaohs, Amenhotep III and Ramesses II in the New Kingdom around 1300 BC. This temple is on the East side of the Nile and so represents the living culture of the gods and pharaohs.
