A small collection of very interesting birds and impressions photographed on a trip to northern Finland in late march 2009.
I visited the the Neljän Tuulen Tupa lodge in Kaamanen NW Ivalo and the Oulu/Liminka-area where I got invaluable assistance of Jari Peltomäki from Finnature. Temperature during my trip was well below zero with a minimum of -27 degrees Celius one morning at Kaamanen.
The Great Grey Owl near Tornio attracted many birdwatchers as well as photographers. During late winter the owl arrived nearly every afternoon to be fed with mouse as well as small pieces of meat. During this very cold period with hard cover of snow this feeding probably contributed to survival of the bird.
