Cruiser Olympia DSC_1807

Philadelphia

I couldn't quite get all of what i wanted in this picture (ran out of dock. The Cruiser OLYMPIA (C-6) is the oldest steel warship afloat in the world. She was launched in San Francisco, California in 1892. She is similar to many early steel warships built in Philadelphia for the US Navy. Cruiser OLYMPIA was decommissioned in 1922 and has been part of Independence Seaport Museum’s Historic Ship Zone since 1996. Learn more at http://www.phillyseaport.org/historicships/olympia.html

By the way folks......HMS Warrior was launched 1860, is iron on teak and was the world's first all-iron warship.

Well worth a visit!

Love this Breland. They just don't make 'em like they used to. And the details others have posted is great.

Neat capture and a beautiful old ship. Are you allowed to board her?

Great shot, Breland. I like all the different flags flying.

Amazing old ship, and to think that in it's day it was the state of the art in naval warefare. The ram bow, bow torpedo tube and waist turrets are cool. The federal shield on the bow is sort of humorous... just so you know who rammed you!

Wow on the ship! I've come to appreciate them more now that I have to shoot them for work. this is a beautiful one. Well taken

Great shot of a great ship and posting it now is also good as we have The Festival of the Sea, to celebrate the 200th aniversary of the Battle of Trafalger.
The Old HMS Warrior is still afloat in Portsmouth she is 6 years older but you are right as Warrior is Steel clad on teak.

Wow...and I was going to say that I was amazed that you were able to fit the entire ship in so nicely! Great shot, Breland!
