Red Berry Plant_5519

This is a berry producing plant that grows abundantly among the piney woods of central and north Louisiana. Gayle and I have been trying to find the real name for it. Can anyone help?

Great colors. The red stands out so wonderfully against the green of the plant.

I do see that plant abundantly around here and around the St Rose area with all the marsh land on St Rose Avenue.
Hmm, thanks laine I always wanted to know the name of that plant too. What an interesting name for it.
Nice shot Breland

Hi Breland, it's Ardisia crenata. A great looking plant but as usual birds carry the seed & before long it's a runaway in climates such as yours & ours. We have had one growing in the garden for 20 yrs...never grown an inch due to wrong position but never died either :>) Good indoor for cooler areas.

They look like cherries to me, but I wouldn't bet the ranch. Nice bright color, Breland

I knew it until you asked. I'll think again.
