The church is a compelling composition of Romanesque structures and Gothic additions, featuring famous 12th-century stained-glass windows.
The present-day church was rebuilt following the collapse of its predecessor around 994 and consecrated in 1065.
The interior houses numerous art treasures and underwent extensive restoration in 1983–84.
