The High Cathedral of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary in Augsburgcommonly known as Augsburg Cathedralis the cathedral of the Diocese of Augsburg
and the parish church for the Cathedral Parish of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. It is considered one of Bavaria's most significant church buildings and one of the most visited landmarks in the city of Augsburg. The cathedral's origins date back to the 8th century; the core of the current structure was built starting in 995. It is the only surviving Ottonian episcopal church in Germany,
as well as one of the oldest religious buildings and episcopal seats north of the Alps.
