It formerly served as a lounge for the Rhine assistant pilots, who guided ships safely through the treacherous stretch near the Lorelei.
Today, the building houses a small pilotage and maritime museum that offers insights into the history of Rhine navigation.
It is situated directly on the banks of the Rhine, near the ferry landing in Kaub.
