The Zollverein Coking Plant in Essen was active from 1961 to 1993 and was considered the most modern coking plant in Europe at the time.
Today, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and industrial monument. Together with the adjacent Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex,
the former coking plant was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2001.
