The wide oval windows set into the narrow sides of the room gave their name to the corresponding, albeit much smaller and more simply furnished, hall in the Palace of Versailles.
The two mirrors on the narrow sides, the largest in the palace, reflect the three crystal chandeliers in an endless sequence.
The ceiling painting has the theme "Night Gives Way to Morning." In the center of the hall stands a bronze equestrian statuette of Louis XIV.
The New Herrenchiemsee Palace is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since summer 2025.
King Ludwig II of Bavaria had the palace built in 1878 as a "Temple of Fame"
for the French "Sun King" Louis XIV and as a replica of the Palace of Versailles.
