The extensive heathland with its numerous gnarled junipers is considered the largest and most beautiful juniper forest in northern Germany.
This hiking area is often called the "Devil's Heath" because of the ancient juniper shapes, which offer an almost mystical sight, especially on foggy days.
The dark green junipers provide a fantastic contrast to the purple of the heather, especially during the heather bloom in August and September.
In this area, the junipers have grown like trees, which is rare.
