The hilltop castle is 410 m above sea level. NHN on the rise of the Frankenhöhe, a small, wooded high altitude area (Frankenhöhe Nature Park), high above the Aischtal. To the east of the castle are the extensive Frankenhöhe forests of the Hohenecker Forest, at their foot one of the few wine-growing regions in Middle Franconia (Middle Franconian Bocksbeutel Road).
