8/21 - Low Water

Hoover Dam, NV view map

This is one of the intake towers for Hoover Dam. The AZ side of the lake and dam is in the background. I liked this photo for two reasons. The first is that it really shows the seriousness of the water situation in this area of the country. The white portion of the lake shore is the area that is usually underwater but was not at the time of the photo due to drought conditions. The second reason I like this is that you can see what is left of a WWII bunker on the ridge line above the dam. Several of these were put in to protect the dam against potential attack by the Japanese and this one is the only one remaining.
