A short distance from the Port of San Diego, we found the city’s historic heart, the famous Gas Lamp Quarter. The streets here are lined with actual gas lamps used for street lighting. The quaint buildings, mostly of Victorian-style architecture, have been restored to house restaurants, art galleries, boutiques, and all sorts of interesting shops. The place must look pretty romantic at night.
On the way back, we walked along the water, beside a tourist shopping and dining area called the Seaport Village. The sky was beautiful and the weather even better, the stroll alone was worth getting off the ship.
