This was our first trip to Mexico. Not knowing what to expect, I envisioned people wearing oversized hats walking around in circles. But the truth is, Ensenada wasn’t nearly as interesting! Maybe we misunderstood what they told us on the boat, or we simply got lost on the way to the shopping strip, but we didn’t see anything interesting in downtown Ensenada. No shopping and certainly little surrounding beauty.
To save the day, we bought bus tickets to visit La Bufadora, a natural ocean blowhole reputedly to be the biggest in the world. Forty-five minutes later, we found ourselves walking down a single winding road with makeshift stores on both sides. It was a giant flea market. At the end of the road was La Bufadora. The blowhole was interesting, sort of. But not exactly what we expected from the lone port of call in Mexico.
One day I will return to Mexico to see its historic sights and to experience its ancient culture. But till then, all I have to show are pictures of a flea market beside a violent sea.
