2005 Hepa-B Vaccination Program

Last January 29th, 400 children aged 0-6 received free Hepatitis-B shots under a program sponsored by UBS and administered thru the BAKUNA BRIGADE of the Glaxo Smith Kline company. Each child received the first of a 3-shot regimen. Fr. Aldrin estimates there are 3,000 children in this age group within Payatas that need this vaccine. The next group of 400 children will be selected once more funds become available. The virus, which is called hepatitis B virus (HBV), can cause lifelong infection, cirrhosis (scarring) of the liver, liver cancer, liver failure, and death.
