This butterfly is also referred to as the Cairns Birdwing.
It is the largest species of butterfly found in Australia in the rainforest clearings, where the female has a wingspan of 20cm. The female is larger, has brown wings (with white markings) and has a cream-colored body with a red tuft of fur on the thorax.
