This Great White Heron was observed at Little Estero Lagoons, Ft. Myers Beach, Florida at low tide on a sunny morning, Feb. 29th, 2004. Quite a sight to see this tall, stately bird sporting its breeding plumage as it slowly stalks shallow wetlands looking for small fish or frogs. It is often mistaken for a Sandhill Crane, but flies with its neck folded, not extending like a crane's. The Great White Heron differs from Great Egret in being larger, with greenish-yellow rather than black legs.
