Photographed at Little Estero Lagoons, Ft. Myers Beach, Florida. A majestic example of the Great White Heron in breeding plumage that stands 39-52". This particular bird was on the high side of its expected height. Herons feed in marshy pools or lagoons watching for fish or frogs, which are its principal food. It does feed on small mammals, reptiles and occasionally, birds.
