Jakarta taxi drivers are notorious for trying to rip off people by not driving a very circuitous route rather than a direct route to your destination. My foolish driver thought he could get me on a sunny afternoon by driving the wrong way on the ring road to get to the airport. What should have been a 40,000 rupiah fare came to 80,000 on the meter. I wasn't going to give him anything, but in the end I gave the driver 20,000 and warned him not to rip people off. Next time I'll stick with the Blue Bird taxis which people say are reputable.
